Close out DC Climate Week with the Architects Foundation

Get a first-hand account of how the Foundation is reimagining The Octagon for the future with a design approach that balances preservation and innovation—strengthening the building’s long-term resilience and sustainability while honoring the architectural character that has defined it for more than two centuries.

Join the Architects Foundation at The Octagon for an exclusive behind‑the‑scenes look at the upcoming renovation of this National Historic Landmark. The program will be led by Carl Elefante, FAIA—a nationally respected architect known for his leadership in sustainability, resilience, and historic preservation, and a former AIA President—alongside Carl Holden, AIA, Partner at Hartman Cox Architects specializing in historic preservation and intimately involved in various projects at The Octagon and Kathy Dixon, FAIA, a DC-based firm owner and Architects Foundation Board Member. Members of the Architects Foundation team will also share insights into the project’s vision and impact.

This program offers one of the last chances to experience The Octagon in its current form before it closes for an 18‑month renovation. Once complete, the project will position the building as a model for resilient and sustainable preservation, demonstrating how historic structures can lead in climate‑conscious, future‑ready design.
